Description

A handsome two-volume reference set of Albert G. Mackey’s Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, edited and enlarged by noted Masonic scholar Robert I. Clegg, 33°. Printed by The Masonic History Company in the late 1920s, these volumes remain among the most widely recognized editions of Mackey’s enduring work on Masonic history, ritual, symbolism, and biography.

Each volume includes hundreds of illustrations, detailed entries on Masonic rites, symbols, and traditions, and reproductions such as Robert Burns’ handwritten Masonic letter and historic engravings by Dürer and others. The Clegg revision modernized Mackey’s text with new research and notes, making this the standard reference for 20th-century American Freemasonry.

Condition

Blue cloth bindings with gilt emblems and decorative cover panels. Light shelf wear; interiors clean, solid, and complete. Perfect for lodge libraries or research collections.

Historical Note

Clegg’s revised edition followed Mackey’s death and incorporated decades of additional scholarship from the Scottish Rite and York Rite archives. This is the edition that established Mackey’s Encyclopedia as the definitive English-language Masonic reference of the early 20th century.
